BadBadNotGood - Timid, Intimidating
BadBadNotGood is a Toronto-based alternative jazz group. The band met in 2010 while studying at Humber College and has remained inseparable since then. Their success is aided by their ability to cross between genres, creating music with jazz and hip hop influences while attracting fans from hip hop, jazz, and alternative audiences.
Their single Timid, Intimidating comes from the newest album Talk Money. This record is all about the band returning to their roots and Timid, Intimidating does so with its smooth instrumental sound. The album also emphasizes the collaboration and community that come with making music, an expression of joy for the industry that they inhabit.
The video features direction by Winston Hacking, known for his signature collage style. The video features black and white cut-outs, placed in front of wide-sweeping backdrops and contrasting colours. Hacking explains his vision for the video, noting "The film takes its enigmatic blueprint from the song, constructing playful image associations out of collages shot along the Pacific Northwest." Audiences are left with a feeling of nostalgia and newfound appreciation for art.
